Guidelines Volume 4 contain the tools for species-appropriate handling and keeping of horses. They impart knowledge about the behaviour of horses, their correct keeping and feeding as well as appropriate care and hygiene measures.
This volume also covers the basics of horse anatomy and physiology as well as the most important horse diseases. The chapter on horse breeding contains tips and information for theory and practice. The guidelines in Volume 4 are used to prepare for riding badges and training tests in accordance with the current APO and are part of the equipment of every responsible horse lover and owner.
The chapter on the developmental history and behaviour of the horse has been expanded; in the chapter on horse breeding - in addition to the routine updating of all figures and tables - the new HLP concept has been taken into account; in the feeding section, the latest requirement figures and findings on species-appropriate feeding have been included; the contents of the chapter on stables, ancillary rooms and exercise areas have been adapted to the new guidelines for the assessment of horse keeping from an animal welfare point of view (as of 2009).
